Omni Mount Washington Resort: A Repeat Visitor's Pick for Fall Foliage in New Hampshire's White Mountains

A travel writer for Condé Nast Traveler has named the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, as her favorite place to stay during fall foliage season — a hotel she says she has visited six times since childhood.

The grand white property, built in 1902 in Spanish Renaissance Revival style with a red-tiled roof, sits in the shadow of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the northeast at 6,288 feet. According to the writer, the resort sprawls across 2,600 acres and holds 269 guest rooms and suites, set against the Presidential Range.

On offer, per the account: two golf courses, the Bretton Woods Ski Area with fall gondola rides, guided hikes, fly-fishing, horseback riding and a 25,000-square-foot spa. The writer's first stop is the back veranda — which she describes as stretching more than 900 feet — overlooking the mountains, with Adirondack chairs and firepits on the lawn.

She favors a room in the Presidential Wing, which opened in 2021 with 69 guest rooms, most with balconies and soaking tubs, and easy access to a heated outdoor pool. Rooms in the Historic Wing were recently renovated, according to the report. Dining picks include Stickney's steakhouse, the casual pub Fabyan's Station in a restored train depot, and The Cave, a Prohibition-era speakeasy.

Nearby draws include North Conway, Jackson — home to an October Pumpkin People celebration — Crawford Notch, Franconia Notch and the Mount Washington Cog Railway. The writer credits the mix of outdoor adventure and luxury, plus the historic setting, for her repeated returns.
