Novgorod Region Bets Big on Tourism with Major Infrastructure Investment
VELIKY NOVGOROD, March 5 – The Novgorod region is channeling over 270 million rubles into its tourism infrastructure this year, Governor Alexander Dronov announced. The funds, secured through the federal "Tourism and Hospitality" national project, aim to build on the area's surging visitor numbers, which exceeded 2.5 million people in 2025.
Dronov stated that tourism remains a cornerstone of the regional economy. To meet rising demand, officials are implementing a comprehensive strategy focused on the visitor experience, balancing the region's profound historical heritage with modern amenities.
"Our plans for 2026 are set," Dronov said. "This investment will directly support new infrastructure, including the opening of two new properties: a spa hotel in the village of Glebovo and the 'TriA Staraya Russa' hotel, adding over 100 rooms to our capacity."
The national project has already provided tangible benefits. More than 30 local entrepreneurs have received support grants totaling 150 million rubles. A separate preferential loan of 840 million rubles financed a new building at the "Staraya Russa" resort. The regional government also continues to subsidize businesses for upgrading equipment, signaling a sustained commitment to growing the tourism sector.
