North Caucasus Has Major Tourism Potential, Says Russian Premier

Speaking at a government commission meeting in Mineralnye Vody, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin highlighted the significant tourism potential of the North Caucasus region. He described the area as a key sector for economic growth, noting that its geographic position offers unique advantages for a wide variety of travel experiences.
Mishustin pointed out that the region can support everything from health and beach vacations to high-adventure activities like skiing, snowboarding, and mountaineering. He emphasized that the existing infrastructure already supports year-round tourism clusters, including well-known destinations such as Arkhyz, Dombay, Elbrus, and Mamison.
“Tourism is another very important sector of the economy that we always discuss in detail during our commission meetings, and we pay special attention to its support,” Mishustin said. “The potential here in the North Caucasus is considerable.”
The premier’s remarks come as part of broader discussions on the social and economic development of the North Caucasus Federal District. With its mix of mountain ranges, mineral springs, and diverse climate zones, the region is increasingly seen as a contender for both domestic and international travelers looking for something beyond the typical resort experience.
Officials are now focusing on how to leverage these natural assets to attract more visitors and boost local economies.
