No Sign of Missing Hiker After Extensive Search in Siberian National Park
Rescue teams in Siberia have wrapped up another search effort for a 55-year-old man who vanished in the Krasnoyarsk Pillars national park more than a month ago. Despite covering over 17 kilometers of trails through rugged mountain taiga, the operation turned up no trace of the missing hiker.
The search, launched at the request of local police, took place on April 30 and involved members of the Krasnoyarsk Search and Rescue Squad. The team focused on a difficult section of the park near Mount Ermak, the area where the man was last seen.
The resident of Krasnoyarsk disappeared on March 9. According to preliminary reports, he drove to the park’s eastern entrance that day, parked his car, and set off on foot toward Mount Ermak. He never made contact again. His vehicle was later found at the entrance, but he did not return.
Rescuers have now searched the area multiple times, including a previous sweep of more than 17 kilometers of park trails. So far, all efforts have come up empty. The man’s family and authorities continue to appeal for any information from hikers or locals who may have seen him that day.
The Krasnoyarsk Pillars, a popular destination for climbers and trekkers, is known for its dramatic rock formations and dense forest. The park can be treacherous in early spring, when snow and ice still cover many paths, and temperatures can drop sharply at night. Rescue officials have not called off the search, but say conditions are making the work increasingly difficult.
