Mysterious Smoke in Business Class Diverts Swiss Air Flight to Maine

A Swiss International Air Lines flight bound for New York made an unscheduled stop in Maine after smoke was detected in the business class cabin. The Airbus A330 was cruising at 33,000 feet over the Atlantic when crew noticed what they described as smoke of an unknown origin. On board were 208 passengers, many likely looking forward to a summer vacation in the Big Apple.
Pilots quickly requested a priority landing, and the aircraft touched down safely at Bangor International Airport. Fire crews were standing by but found no active fire or source of the smoke. Passengers were temporarily accommodated in the terminal while Swiss Air teams worked to arrange alternative transportation. "Our teams in Switzerland and the U.S. are working around the clock," a spokesperson told local media.
Interestingly, this same plane had a previous brush with trouble. In April, while accelerating for takeoff at an airport in India, one of its engines caught fire. The captain aborted the departure and ordered an evacuation, during which four passengers and one crew member suffered minor injuries. For now, Swiss Air is focused on getting today's passengers to their destination as quickly as possible.
