Moscow's Airports Battle Heavy Snowfall to Keep Travel Moving

MOSCOW, Feb 13 – Major airports serving the Russian capital are maintaining operations as a significant winter storm blankets the city. Representatives from Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports, along with press releases from Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo, confirmed that all facilities are functioning, though ground teams are engaged in a constant fight against the accumulating snow.
At Domodedovo, 63 pieces of equipment are clearing runways and apron areas, supported by 17 workers manually removing snow from hard-to-reach spots. Zhukovsky airport reported similar normal operations, with snow being trucked away from the airfield.
Sheremetyevo stated it continues to ensure stable departures and arrivals despite the challenging conditions, performing regular de-icing and snow removal on runways, forecourts, and access roads. Vnukovo has deployed 75 personnel and 68 vehicles, removing approximately 16 tons of snow over the past 24 hours. Terminal conditions are described as calm.
The coordinated effort highlights the infrastructure's preparedness for severe winter weather, a routine but critical test for a major transit hub. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for potential delays, but for now, Moscow's aviation gateway remains open.
