Moscow Hotel Rates Drop 6% as Russia Sees Widespread Price Cuts

Good news for travelers eyeing a trip to Russia’s capital: the average nightly cost of a hotel or apartment in Moscow has fallen 6% compared to last year, according to data from the online booking platform Ostrovok. Between January and July 2026, the typical room rate in Moscow settled at 6,400 rubles per night — a modest but welcome dip for budget-conscious visitors.
Nationwide, the trend is similar though more muted. The average cost of a booked night across Russia dropped 2% year-over-year, landing at 6,100 rubles. Ostrovok’s analysis, covering the same seven-month period, found price declines in several popular destinations. Zelenogradsk saw the steepest drop at 7% (now 7,900 rubles), while Makhachkala recorded a 9% slide to 4,250 rubles. Other cities that became cheaper include Sirius (down 3% to 6,900 rubles), Sochi and St. Petersburg (each down 2% to 5,900 and 5,850 rubles, respectively), and Novosibirsk (also down 2% to 4,500 rubles).
The data suggests a broader softening in accommodation prices across the country, potentially offering travelers more value for their rubles this year. Whether this is a seasonal adjustment or a longer-term shift remains to be seen, but for now, those planning a Russian getaway may find better deals than last season.
