Mishustin backs new tourism and service professions after criticism of 'surrogate' training

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has backed a proposal from the Ministry of Education and Science to introduce new professions into the official list of specialties for the service and tourism sector.

The support came during a government meeting on tourism and hospitality development in Gorno-Altaysk. Education Minister Valery Falkov criticized current training practices, saying chefs are being taught under the direction of 'management' and calling such approaches 'surrogate forms' of education.

Mishustin agreed that the confusion should end, urging officials to 'call things by their names' so professionals can take pride in their actual trade. The proposal will now be considered for inclusion in the official list of specialties.
