Middle East Travel Ban Could Lift Within Weeks, Says Russian Tourism Official

MOSCOW, April 8 – A key Russian tourism official says restrictions on travel to Middle Eastern nations could be revoked in as little as three weeks, provided the security situation between conflicting parties stabilizes. The statement from Arthur Muradyan, Vice President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), follows a recent de-escalation in regional tensions.

This potential shift comes after U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week suspension of strikes on Iran, a move reportedly supported by Israel. Iran's Supreme National Security Council has stated it will begin talks with the U.S. in Islamabad on Friday, April 10.

Since early March, the Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly advised its citizens against tourist travel to several countries in the region until active hostilities cease and air traffic normalizes. Following this guidance, the Ministry of Economic Development recommended that tour operators and agencies halt sales of packages to the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

Muradyan, who also heads the tour operator Space Travel, noted a silver lining for the industry. "Demand could actually rebound in time for the May holidays," he told RIA Novosti, "since some existing bookings haven't been canceled by travelers yet." The comment suggests the market is poised for a quick recovery if diplomatic efforts hold.
