Middle East Travel Ban Could Lift Soon, Russian Officials Signal

Moscow may be ready to ease restrictions on package tours to the Middle East, according to a senior official at the Ministry of Economic Development. Nikita Kondratiev, director of the department for multilateral economic cooperation and special projects, told RIA Novosti that a decision could come "in the near future."
Kondratiev said the timing depends on conditions in the region. The announcement follows a recommendation from Russia’s Foreign Ministry in early March, which urged citizens to avoid tourist trips to several Middle Eastern countries until active hostilities end and air travel normalizes.
At that point, the Ministry of Economic Development advised tour operators and travel agents to halt sales of tours to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. The move came amid escalating tensions in the region.
Now, with the situation possibly stabilizing, officials are reconsidering. While no specific date has been set, Kondratiev’s comments suggest the ban could be lifted sooner rather than later. For travelers eager to visit these destinations, the wait might soon be over. The ministry will continue to monitor security and flight availability before giving the green light.
