Mexico Offers World Cup Fans the Cheapest Places to Stay in 2026
If you’re planning to catch the 2026 World Cup without breaking the bank, Mexico is your best bet. A new analysis of short-term rental prices shows that the three Mexican host cities—Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey—are far more affordable than their U.S. and Canadian counterparts.
Researchers looked at lodging costs for a two-night stay: checking in the day before a match and checking out the day after. The cheapest option turned out to be Mexico City, which hosts the tournament’s opening match on June 11. A single adult can book a room there from June 10 to 12 for as little as $25 a night. That price gets you a hotel room near the airport bus station, or a bed in a shared hostel dormitory in the historic center.
Guadalajara and Monterrey are also budget-friendly, though slightly pricier. In Guadalajara, the lowest rate for the first game is around $31 a night; in Monterrey, it starts at about $36.
By contrast, accommodations in U.S. and Canadian host cities during the same early tournament dates cost at least double those Mexican prices. For fans watching their wallets, the message is clear: head south of the border for the best value.
