Maldives Hotels Slash Rates for Russian Travelers by Up to 70%

Moscow, May 7 — Resort operators in the Maldives are offering Russian tourists discounts of as much as 70% on accommodations between May and June 2026, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR). The markdowns stem from a combination of seasonal price adjustments and geopolitical shifts, including a drop in European visitors.
PAC Group, a major tour operator, notes that seasonal discounts are standard practice. But this year, the usual lull in demand has been compounded by political factors. In March and April, widespread flight cancellations across the Middle East led to a sharp decline in bookings to the Maldives, leaving hotels with empty rooms. European guests have been especially scarce, prompting properties to roll out aggressive deals.
On average, discounts range from 20% to 40%, with some resorts cutting rates by 50% to 70%. Tez Tour explains that Russian travelers account for 10% to 12% of total hotel occupancy across the archipelago. "Even in the low season, hoteliers are fighting hard for this demand, offering discounts and creating special packages," the company told ATOR.
Interest from Russia is clearly on the rise. According to Maldives government statistics, 75,200 Russian tourists visited the islands in the first three months of 2026—12.5% more than the same period last year. Fun&Sun, another tour operator, reports that spring and summer demand from Russian travelers has jumped 60% year-on-year. Booking windows have also stretched to five months, up from three months a year ago. "That shows travelers are regaining confidence, willing to plan Maldives trips half a year ahead," the operator said.
With expanded flight routes and deeper discounts, the Maldives is shaping up to be a bargain escape for Russian tourists this shoulder season.
