Maldives Hotels Slash Prices for Russian Tourists as European Visitors Drop Off

The Maldives, long a playground for the wealthy, is rolling out deep discounts for Russian travelers this summer. According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), seasonal price cuts are nothing new at this exclusive destination. But this year, geopolitics is compounding the usual weather-related slowdown, leading to some of the steepest markdowns in recent memory. Tour operator PAC Group reports that average discounts on accommodations range from 20 to 40 percent, with certain properties slashing rates by 50 to 70 percent. Four- and five-star hotels are leading the charge with the most aggressive pricing. Intourist, another major operator, notes that luxury resorts are sweetening deals with added perks rather than just lowering rates—things like free nights, complimentary meals for children, upgrades to all-inclusive packages, and waived or discounted transfers, including seaplane rides. Budget hotels, meanwhile, are more cautious with their discounts to protect their bottom lines. The timing isn’t accidental. ATOR data shows Russian bookings to the Maldives surged 136 percent in early 2026, even as European tourists pull back. With summer approaching, these discounts could make the island paradise more accessible than it’s been in years—at least for those willing to book now.
