Malaysia, Philippines, Zanzibar: Russia’s new exotic hotspots

Russian travelers are setting their sights on fresh exotic destinations this year, with Malaysia, the Philippines, and Zanzibar emerging as top choices. According to Arthur Muradyan, vice president of the Russian Tour Operators Association (ATOR) and CEO of Space Travel, Malaysia was the breakout destination of the past year, and demand for the Philippines is climbing—especially after direct flights from Russia’s Far East were launched. A ten-day trip to either the Philippines or Malaysia costs between 120,000 and 150,000 rubles per person, while a similar holiday in Zanzibar runs pricier, at 200,000 to 220,000 rubles. Muradyan noted these are average figures; budget-conscious travelers can find cheaper options, and luxury seekers can spend far more. The trend reflects a growing appetite among Russians for long-haul beach getaways that offer something beyond the usual Turkish or Egyptian resorts. With direct routes improving and tour packages becoming more competitive, these destinations are likely to stay on the radar for the coming season.
