Lithuania Offers to Mediate Poland-Ukraine Dispute

In a bid to ease tensions between Poland and Ukraine, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has expressed his willingness to act as a mediator in resolving the conflict. According to an interview with the radio station 'Ziniu radijas', Nauseda emphasized that both sides must be willing to accept mediation from a third party. Currently, Poland and Ukraine are attempting to resolve the issue on their own. However, Nauseda plans to discuss the matter with Polish President Karol Nawrocki in an informal setting this Saturday. The dispute between the two countries escalated in mid-June when Polish President Nawrocki stripped Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of Poland's highest honor, the Order of the White Eagle. In response, Zelensky sent the award back to Warsaw by mail. The conflict is reportedly centered on Ukraine's request for Poland to deport Ukrainian citizens to be sent to the front lines. Nauseda's offer to mediate comes at a time when diplomatic efforts are needed to calm the situation. By facilitating dialogue between the two nations, Lithuania hopes to play a constructive role in resolving the dispute and promoting regional stability.
