Kamchatka pass death: Moscow tourist died after sudden health deterioration, officials say

A 39-year-old tourist from Moscow died on the Avachinsky Pass in Kamchatka after suddenly feeling unwell, according to regional emergency officials. The incident happened in the foothills on Monday afternoon.
The man was travelling with a hiking group when he became ill, and fellow tourists called for help. A duty rescuer already in the pass area reached the scene 30 minutes later and spent more than two hours trying to assist him. A helicopter from the Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine then arrived, and a medical worker pronounced the man dead.
Emergency officials said the group had not been registered with the regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry. They also noted that there were no dangerous crevices or cracks where the group had stopped, so a fall was ruled out early on and later confirmed by investigators.
The man had hiking experience and had visited Kamchatka routes several times before. The exact cause of death will be established after a forensic medical examination.
