Izhavia Keeps Flying Despite Flight Certificate Restrictions

Izhavia, the regional airline based in Izhevsk, is still operating its regular schedule even after Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) slapped a short-term limit on its operator certificate. The restriction, which runs through July 28, came after inspectors found the carrier had allowed a plane to fly without completing required maintenance and flagged problems with how the airline manages flight safety systems. Rosaviatsia announced the move on Friday, noting the certificate would expire at the end of next month unless the airline corrects the issues. In a statement released Wednesday, the agency said it expects Izhavia to submit a detailed plan for fixing the violations, including specific steps and timelines. The airline itself has not suspended flights. “We are waiting for a clear corrective action plan from the carrier,” a Rosaviatsia spokesperson said. “Izhavia continues its production activities.” The federal transport watchdog, Rostransnadzor, is monitoring the airline’s progress and will ensure the problems are resolved before the certificate deadline. For now, passengers can expect their flights to operate as usual, though the situation underscores the heightened scrutiny on regional carriers in Russia this year.
