Israel Tours Halted for Russian-Speaking Travelers as Regional Tensions Escalate

VLADIVOSTOK, March 1 – Major tour operators specializing in travel to Israel for Russian-speaking clients have suspended all upcoming trips, citing immediate security directives from the Israeli military. The moves follow a sharp escalation of hostilities in the region over the weekend.
A representative for one tour and hiking company told Vacation Affairs that all group activities and gatherings have been prohibited by order of the Israeli Home Front Command. 'The country's airspace is closed, so tourism is simply not viable right now,' the representative said. 'We canceled a hike just thirty minutes after it began on February 28. We have no announcements scheduled through April.'
A second Israeli tour company confirmed the cancellations for the coming days, with plans beyond the next week described as 'unclear.'
The suspensions come after the United States and Israel conducted a series of strikes on targets within Iran, including near Tehran, on Saturday. Reports indicate significant damage and civilian casualties. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory missile strikes against Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities elsewhere in the Middle East, creating an unstable environment that has effectively frozen leisure travel to the area.
