Ingushetia Gears Up for Road Trippers with New Tourism Plan

Authorities in Ingushetia are putting the finishing touches on a long-term strategy to boost automobile tourism, with a target year of 2035. Governor Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov announced the move on Monday, noting that the region already operates a network of campsites for travelers. The plan is meant to serve as a roadmap for building new routes, upgrading infrastructure, and supporting local tourism projects.

“Road trips are becoming more popular as people want to explore new areas on their own terms—learning about history, culture, and nature,” Kalimatov wrote on Telegram. He argued that Ingushetia has everything needed to thrive in this travel niche. One highlight is the route called “In the Land of Towers and Legends,” which has already been recognized as a pilot route in the North Caucasus Federal District and is listed on the federal tourism portal. The region has also set up 21 campsites for visitors driving through its mountainous and foothill areas.

Beyond camping, officials have placed informational signs with QR codes at 50 cultural heritage sites. Scanning the codes gives travelers details about local monuments and suggested itineraries. But Kalimatov stressed that the work isn’t over. “We still need to improve roads and roadside facilities, create new tourism products, support local entrepreneurs, and make full use of federal programs,” he said. The completed concept is expected to guide these efforts through the next decade.
