India Drops Visa Fee for Russian Travelers in Major Tourism Push

@rata_ruSunday, January 4, 2026

Starting January 1, 2026, Russian citizens can obtain a 30-day electronic tourist visa for India without paying the standard consular fee. The move simplifies travel and reduces costs for one of India's key visitor markets.

The electronic visa application must still be completed online before departure, with processing typically taking up to 72 hours. The visa is double-entry, valid for two visits within its 30-day validity period. A significant practical change: travelers no longer need a foreign bank card to pay the fee, eliminating a previous hurdle that often forced applicants to use third-party visa agencies.

India has also relaxed entry rules. The e-visa is now valid for entry within 120 days from its issue date. The 30-day duration of stay begins only upon arrival, giving tourists greater flexibility in planning their trips. This policy shift signals a clear effort by Indian authorities to attract more visitors by streamlining the entry process and removing financial barriers.
