Hundreds of Russian Tourists Await Flights Home from Mauritius

An estimated 600 to 700 Russian tourists are currently in Mauritius awaiting flights home, according to Russia's ambassador to the island nation, Irada Zeynalova. While the ambassador described the situation as not being an emergency, she confirmed that around 500 travelers still need confirmed boarding passes for their return journeys.

Zeynalova, speaking on the 'Solovyov Live' broadcast, noted that many of the tourists did not book through standard travel agencies, making precise numbers difficult to determine. However, she reported that departures are now being organized en masse for dates in mid-March. "People are calling and saying, 'We got our boarding passes.' I tell them, 'Yes, I see you got them,'" the ambassador stated.

She advised those on the ground that if they can wait for a guaranteed flight with a normal connection, they should do so. The disruption follows a significant escalation of military conflict in the Middle East in late February, involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which has severely impacted international air travel routes and availability. The Russian embassy is monitoring the situation as travelers work to secure passage home from the Indian Ocean destination.
