Helicopter dispatched to rescue tourist who fell ill on Kamchatka route

A helicopter was sent to evacuate a tourist who fell ill on a route between the Verblyud extrusion and the Avachinsky shelter in Kamchatka, regional emergency minister Sergei Lebedev said.

Rescuers from the Avachinsky pass and a group from the Kamchatka rescue center also headed to help. The tourist's guide alerted emergency services by calling 112.

Lebedev said this was not the first time in the past week that travelers needed medical help because of poor health. He urged visitors and residents to choose routes responsibly and assess their condition before heading out. A helicopter from the Kamchatka territorial disaster medicine center took part in the evacuation.
