Heathrow Holds the Crown as World's Top Travel Hub in 2025 Rankings

For travelers plotting an ambitious global itinerary, the choice of a gateway airport matters more than you might think. New data from OAG's Megahubs 2025 report, which measures an airport's scheduled international connections against its total destinations, reveals the world's most powerful flight networks.

London Heathrow retains the number one spot for a second consecutive year. Despite serving 226 destinations—fewer than many rivals—its schedule facilitated nearly 60,000 possible connections last year, underscoring its role as a primary global interchange.

The most striking figure belongs to Istanbul Airport, which placed second. Voted the best international airport by Condé Nast Traveler readers in 2025, it offered over 82,700 connections across 327 destinations, demonstrating explosive growth. Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport took third, providing links to 275 cities.

U.S. airports maintained a strong presence, with Chicago O'Hare and Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson securing seventh and eighth place respectively. Paris Charles de Gaulle rounded out the top ten. The rankings highlight a continued shift in global travel patterns, with Istanbul's ascent marking a significant eastward pivot in aviation's connective power.

For 2026, these hubs represent the most efficient springboards for complex trips, turning a single booking into a world of possibilities.
