Headed to Israel? Don’t forget these travel musts, officials say

If you’re planning a trip to Israel this year, there’s one thing you absolutely cannot skip before you go: applying for an ETA entry permit. Ksenia Vorontsova, head of the Israel Ministry of Tourism’s Moscow office, told RIA Novosti that Russian tourists must obtain this authorization ahead of time — without it, you won’t be allowed into the country. The process is straightforward, but it’s a step travelers often overlook.
Once you land, expect a small change from the usual passport stamp. Instead, you’ll receive a small entry card at the airport. Vorontsova emphasized that this card is not for the trash bin — you’ll need to keep it with you for the entire stay. Hotels require it to confirm your tourist status, so tuck it somewhere safe alongside your passport.
As for packing, Vorontsova offered some practical advice for the Israeli climate. Sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher is non-negotiable, along with comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and lightweight clothing made from natural fabrics. A reusable water bottle is also a smart addition — staying hydrated is key. On the flip side, leave behind any perishable food items, heavy winter gear, and especially drones for photography. Israeli regulations on drones are strict, and they’re best left at home to avoid trouble at customs.
