Google's New Travel Tools Aim to Simplify Summer Trip Planning

As summer trip planning shifts into high gear, Google has introduced two practical features designed to save travelers money and spare them last-minute headaches. The updates, announced last week, expand on existing tools within Google Search and its AI-powered modes.
The first addition allows users to monitor price changes for specific hotels, not just general destinations. By toggling a 'track prices' button on a hotel's search results page or via google.com/hotels, travelers will receive email alerts if the rate drops for their selected dates. This refines a broader city-based tracking tool launched last year, giving a sharper focus on preferred accommodations.
Perhaps more innovative is a new function within Google's AI Mode intended for packing emergencies. Imagine arriving at a beach resort only to find your sunscreen absent from your bag. Users can now describe what they need—for example, 'I need a swimsuit nearby'—and the AI will take action. It automatically calls local stores to check inventory and for any active promotions, then delivers a concise list of in-stock options.
This shopping assistant, which began testing in Search last November, is now becoming available in AI Mode for users in the United States. Together, these tools represent Google's continued push to weave its services more directly into the logistical fabric of travel, moving from simple search to proactive assistance.
