Free Ski Passes Offered at Krasnaya Polyana as Southern Russia Resorts Court Budget Travelers

Ski holidays in southern Russia are widely seen as pricey, but travelers have plenty of options across Sochi, Dombay, Arkhyz and the Elbrus region - and Krasnaya Polyana is promising free ski passes to hotel guests this winter.

Sergey Romashkin, vice-president of the Association of Tour Operators, shared the budget-friendly picks with 93.ru. Sochi is the most expensive destination, he said, though it offers entertainment for skiers and for those who prefer mountain walks. In Esto-Sadok, rooms can be found for 2,000-3,000 rubles per night. Dombay hotels start at roughly 2,000-3,500 rubles a night, while Arkhyz has accommodation for two from 2,400-3,500 rubles.

For savings, Romashkin pointed travelers toward the Elbrus region. Resort choice should also match skill level: Dombay and Elbrus suit fans of long high-altitude runs, while Arkhyz works well for beginners and families with children.

Krasnaya Polyana has an added draw in its "Gora Vklyuchena" program, which from December 1 promises ski passes for the entire stay at no extra charge to guests staying in local hotels. Last season a day pass cost about 4,000-5,000 rubles, so the savings could be substantial.

Romashkin advised buying plane tickets in advance, since prices usually rise closer to the trip, but said there is no rush on choosing a hotel - better to compare offers carefully. The southern Russia ski season typically runs from November or December through April, depending on the weather.
