Florida’s Siesta Beach Nabs the Top U.S. Spot on a Global Ranking

If you’re hunting for the best beach in the United States, the answer isn’t in California, Cape Cod, or even Hawaii. It’s in Florida. Siesta Beach, on Sarasota County’s Siesta Key, has landed at No. 28 on The World’s 50 Best Beaches list for 2026—the highest ranking of any U.S. beach. It also took seventh place in North America, beating out Hawaiian favorites like Kapalua Beach (No. 33) and Waimanalo Beach (No. 35), as well as Caribbean stars such as The Baths in the British Virgin Islands (No. 8) and Taylor Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos (No. 17). Another Sunshine State entry, Henderson Beach along the Panhandle’s Emerald Coast, ranked 26th in North America.
The list, compiled by The World’s Best Inc., relies on feedback from 1,000 travel professionals who visit each beach and report on conditions and quality. Siesta Beach climbed from 12th in North America and 42nd globally in 2025, a notable jump. What sets it apart? The sand. It’s 99 percent pure quartz from the Appalachian Mountains, giving it a powdery, sugar-fine texture that feels more Caribbean than Gulf Coast. “The main attraction is the uniqueness of its white powdery sand that you don't see just anywhere,” says Haley Covel, a travel specialist with Cove Travels. “Having it at our fingertips right here in the U.S. is truly something special.”
Siesta Key keeps things relaxed. You can walk from the beach to a taco stand, grab a frozen daiquiri, and stay in flip-flops all day. Lifeguards patrol the calm waters, making it family-friendly. To get there, fly into Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), just 25 minutes away. A free trolley loops around the island, so you don’t need a rental car. The best times to visit are April to May or September to early October, but watch for hurricane season from June through October. Hurricane Milton hit the area hard in 2024, but beaches have fully recovered. For lodging, consider Longboat Key for easy access to Anna Maria Island or Lido Key for walkable shopping at St. Armands Circle. Options range from the Siesta Key Beach Resort and Suites to the luxurious St. Regis Longboat Key Resort, plus plenty of Airbnb rentals with pools or beachfront views.
