Five Dead, 40 Injured in Swiss Tourist Bus Crash Near Davos
Five people were killed and 40 injured when a tourist bus crashed near the Swiss town of Davos, police in the canton of Graubünden said.
The bus, owned by a Dutch tour company, was carrying 45 passengers. The accident happened between the villages of Susch and Zernez, about a 40-minute drive from the alpine resort that hosts the World Economic Forum.
Three people suffered serious injuries, seven were moderately hurt, and 30 sustained minor injuries, according to police. Thirteen ambulance crews and seven rescue helicopters took the injured to various hospitals. The identities of the dead have not yet been released.
Police said the vehicle left the road near Lessa in a construction zone and overturned. Some Swiss media reported that a boulder on the road, which the driver tried to avoid, may have caused the crash.
The Graubünden prosecutor's office and cantonal police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
