Five Countries Where €1,000 a Month Buys a Comfortable Life

A Russian travel blogger named Alexei Sokolov has put together a shortlist of five countries where €1,000 (roughly $1,080) per month is enough to live quite comfortably. Sokolov, who runs the blog 'Around the World with Sokolov' on the platform Dzen, recently shared his findings—and the list includes some surprising destinations for budget-conscious travelers and remote workers.

Vietnam tops the list. Sokolov says a studio apartment with a kitchen and balcony can be rented for about €280 a month, while renting a motorbike costs just €60 per month. A full breakfast, he notes, costs no more than a cappuccino in Moscow. Georgia comes next: a flat with mountain views goes for around €300 a month, a market lunch sets you back €3–4, and a city minibus ride costs less than €0.50.

Uzbekistan caught Sokolov off guard with the contrast between its stunning architecture and low prices. Samarkand and Bukhara look expensive, he says, but a plate of plov at the market costs just €1.50, and a room in a guesthouse in the old city runs €15 a night. He also points out that a flight with a layover can be cheaper than a direct ticket to Europe. The remaining two spots on his list are Bali, Indonesia, and Kyrgyzstan. 'If you explore local markets, plan your route based on neighbors’ advice, and don’t shy away from simple living, €1,000 a month opens up mountains, ocean, and real life,' Sokolov concludes. 'Holidays don’t have to be expensive.'
