Family-First Travel: Why Russian Parents Are Staying Close to Home This Summer

A new study from booking platform Ostrovok reveals that the vast majority of Russian families are choosing domestic destinations for their summer getaways. According to the research, shared with Lenta.ru, a full 80 percent of family bookings are now for spots within Russia’s borders.
So where are they heading? The top picks remain the familiar sun-and-sand favorites: Krasnodar Krai and Crimea. Parents traveling with kids are drawn to beachside relaxation, but analysts note a shift toward lesser-known gems. Bookings are rising for Divnomorskoye and Lermontovo, alongside perennial favorites like Anapa, Vityazevo, Kabardinka, Gelendzhik, and Krasnodar itself.
In Crimea, the most popular spots include Yevpatoria, Sudak, Sevastopol, Feodosia, Alushta, and Yalta. The average nightly cost for family travelers in hotels and apartments across the country now stands at 7,700 rubles—a 6 percent increase from last summer’s 7,300 rubles.
Experts also found that families are settling in for longer stays. The average booking length is five nights, with the most extended vacations happening along the Krasnodar and Crimean coasts. The trend is clear: after a surge in domestic travel in 2026, Russian families are doubling down on homeland holidays, trading far-flung trips for familiar shores and longer, more relaxed breaks.
