Exes' Canary Islands Vacation Ends in Brawl, Early Flight Home

A British man cut his Spanish holiday short after just one day, fleeing his resort following a violent altercation with his ex-girlfriend. The incident, which occurred in June 2025 at the Beverly Park hotel on Gran Canaria, recently concluded in court.
Alisha Lloyd and Calum Wignall, both 18, had booked a ten-day trip before their relationship ended. Opting to travel together regardless, tensions erupted on their first evening. At a bar, Wignall saw Lloyd messaging another man and sharing her social media details. An argument ensued, with Wignall leading Lloyd back toward the hotel. After she dropped her phone, Lloyd reportedly struck Wignall in the head and face. When he tried to restrain her, she bit him on the chest, tearing his t-shirt.
Hotel security intervened. Though initially ejected, Wignall was allowed to retrieve his belongings. As he left with his suitcase, Lloyd attacked again, also smashing his smartphone. Wignall then took a taxi to the airport, telling the court he feared for his safety and felt he needed to escape the island.
Lloyd pleaded guilty to assault. She received an 18-month community order with mandatory rehabilitation, a 12-month mental health treatment program, and a 120-day alcohol ban. The case serves as a stark reminder that some shared vacations are better left uncanceled.
