Emirates Rolls Out First-of-Its-Kind Travel Coverage for Dubai Passengers

Emirates has introduced a new travel insurance product that it says is the first of its kind from any airline, aimed at giving passengers heading to or through Dubai more peace of mind during a period of regional instability. The coverage, backed by Travel Guard, includes protection for medical expenses related to conflicts, a free 30-day trip extension, hotel stays managed by the airline, and support during travel disruptions. If a flight is canceled due to conflict, Emirates will rebook travelers on another carrier at no extra cost. Customers can purchase the policy when booking or add it to existing reservations.
The move comes as many Gulf nations remain under the highest level of government travel advisories due to tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Travelers passing through hubs like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha have often struggled to find standard insurance that covers them in such scenarios. Emirates’ policy is not affected by changes in government travel advice.
“We wanted to offer a product that’s both comprehensive and reassuring for a wide range of situations,” said Tim Clark, Emirates’ president. “With strong summer travel demand, this gives our customers added confidence when planning their journeys to and through Dubai.”
Dubai International Airport currently sees about 40,000 daily transit passengers, down from 100,000 before the conflict. Etihad Airways has also stepped up, partnering with Abu Dhabi’s tourism authority to provide free 15-day health insurance for international passengers arriving in the UAE from July through December 2026. Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves said the coverage lets guests “focus entirely on experiencing Emirati hospitality.”
Clark first hinted at the plan last month, saying Emirates would create a reasonably priced policy guaranteeing travelers could get home “irrespective of whether it’s on Emirates or not.” The airline, which posted a $6.6 billion profit over the past year, is now flying to 138 destinations as UAE airspace fully reopens.
