El Al Extends Tel Aviv-Moscow Flight Suspension Through Summer

Israeli carrier El Al has pushed back the resumption of flights between Tel Aviv and Moscow until at least September 1, citing ongoing instability in Russian airspace. The decision, reported by Interfax, extends a suspension that originally began on June 25. The airline has not specified what particular risks prompted the prolonged grounding, nor has it offered a clear timeline for when regular service might restart beyond the September cutoff.

The move underscores a cautious approach by the Israeli flag carrier, which initially halted flights to Russia through the end of June before deciding to stretch that pause through the peak summer travel season. El Al has remained tight-lipped about the exact nature of the threats, though the vague reference to “developments in the aviation sector” echoes earlier statements. Passengers holding bookings for affected dates are being advised to check for rebooking or refund options.

Meanwhile, Russian airlines are moving in the opposite direction. Red Wings has announced plans to launch flights from Sochi to Tel Aviv starting October 27, and regular service from Moscow continues as usual. The contrast highlights a growing divergence in how carriers assess the safety of flying between the two countries. For now, travelers on the Israeli side will have to wait until at least September for a clearer picture.
