Egypt's Swissotel Sharm El-Sheikh Reviews Safety After Russian Child's Death

RIA NovostiSaturday, October 17, 2026

The five-star Swissotel in Sharm El-Sheikh is reviewing its security and workplace safety measures following the death of a Russian child on its grounds, a source in Egypt's tourism industry told RIA Novosti.

Egypt's tourism ministry is monitoring the matter, the source said. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances of the child's death and are examining how an electrical cable came to be in the hotel's courtyard.

The Russian Embassy in Cairo earlier reported the death of a 14-year-old at the Sharm El-Sheikh hotel on October 14, saying diplomats were helping the parents with paperwork for repatriation.

The prosecutor's office is investigating the death, and three hotel employees, including its director, have been questioned, according to a source in the prosecutor's office.
