Earthquake Rocks Caracas Airport, Widespread Damage Reported

A powerful earthquake has struck Venezuela, causing significant damage to the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas. Social media users have shared videos showing the destruction inside the airport's registration hall, with debris scattered everywhere and parts of the ceiling collapsed. The footage, although unverified, gives a glimpse into the extent of the damage. The airport, located in Maiquetía, appears to have suffered substantial damage, with dust filling the air and damaged wall panels visible. This is not an isolated incident, as users have also posted photos and videos of the earthquake's aftermath in various parts of Venezuela, including damaged buildings, collapsed walls, and clouds of dust hanging over some areas of Caracas. The US National Geological Service has revised the earthquake's magnitude to 7.5 and 7.2, indicating that there were two series of tremors. The initial report stated that the earthquake, which was felt 28 kilometers from the town of Montalbán, had a magnitude of 7.1. As the situation continues to unfold, officials have yet to release an official statement on the extent of the damage to the airport. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses, including a correspondent from RIA Novosti, have reported seeing people carrying injured individuals on stretchers near a destroyed house, highlighting the human impact of the disaster.
