Dubai Travel Status: Flights Resume Amid Regional Tensions

For travelers with plans to the UAE, the situation remains complex. Following a series of missile and drone interceptions by UAE defense forces, which caused damage at several airports and hotels, commercial air service is slowly restarting under heightened security. The U.S. State Department has advised Americans to reconsider travel, citing Iran's stated intent to target locations in the UAE associated with the United States.

Major airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai sustained damage from falling debris in late February, resulting in casualties and injuries. Incidents also affected prominent hotels like the Burj Al Arab and Fairmont The Palm. In response, global governments have updated travel warnings; Australia now advises "do not travel," while the UK warns against all but essential trips.

Airlines are navigating a partial reopening of airspace. Emirates, Etihad, and Flydubai have resumed limited networks, but flights are not operating normally. Passengers must have a confirmed booking and should not go to the airport unless directly contacted by their carrier. Many other airlines, including Qatar Airways and Gulf Air, remain suspended due to neighboring airspace closures.

Travel insurance is a critical consideration, as standard policies may not cover trips against official government advice. Schedules are subject to change with little notice. While the UAE's infrastructure is recovering, the ongoing regional conflict means travel plans require constant monitoring and significant flexibility.
