Drone with suspected explosive found at Leipzig airport, Bild says

RIA NovostiWednesday, August 5, 2026

German tabloid Bild reports that a drone found overnight Wednesday at Leipzig/Halle airport had a package with a detonator attached, which investigators classified as a possible explosive device.

The airport faced operational restrictions after police reported an unknown object in the sky and a suspicious item on one of the runways. According to Bild, the drone was lying near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane. A NATO spokesperson confirmed to DPA that a drone had been found near the Ukrainian aircraft and that police had secured the plane overnight.

Germany's federal police dispatched bomb disposal specialists and planned a controlled detonation of the package using a remote-controlled sapper robot.
