Dream Maldives Trip Turns to Chaos as Couple Stranded by Wanted Travel Agent

A Russian couple paid 700,000 rubles for a luxury Maldives holiday, only to be left scrambling for flights and accommodation upon arrival. The story, first reported by the Telegram channel ‘Krysha TurDoma’, highlights the risks of dealing with unverified agents.
The couple, Anastasia and her husband, booked the trip through agent Alina Pilipenko on a friend's recommendation. Just before departure, Pilipenko claimed to have mixed up their flight dates from Moscow to Malé. She cancelled the tickets, forcing the pair to buy new ones at the last minute. Their troubles escalated when they landed in the Maldives and discovered their private island villa was never booked. Pilipenko blamed an overbooking by the local provider.
Stranded, the pregnant Anastasia and her husband had to settle for a hotel in Malé, rejecting other options requiring speedboat transfers due to her medical advice. They later continued their journey to Sri Lanka. While Pilipenko has promised a refund, the matter remains unresolved.
This is not an isolated incident. Pilipenko, based in Thailand, is reportedly wanted by authorities and has been subject to multiple criminal cases for defrauding tourists, with at least 20 alleged victims. Since 2025, she has been on a wanted list. In a prior case, she was convicted and sentenced to five years in a general regime colony for cheating dozens of clients out of 14 million rubles, leaving them without their promised vacations.
