Disney+ Scores Major Sports Deal with French Network La Chaîne L’Équipe

Disney+ has inked a deal with French free-to-air sports channel La Chaîne L’Équipe, bringing live events like the World Cup and the Dakar Rally to the streaming platform in France. Announced Tuesday, the partnership gives Disney+ subscribers access to flagship L’Équipe shows such as L’Équipe du Soir, L’Équipe de Greg, and L’Équipe de Choc. The channel will also broadcast matches from this summer’s World Cup.

Other sports heading to Disney+ include the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Championships in biathlon, the Spanish Super Cup, the Diamond League, and the European Table Tennis Union circuit. This marks the latest in a series of content-sharing agreements Disney+ has struck with traditional broadcasters across Europe. In recent years, the streamer has partnered with the U.K.’s ITV, Germany’s ZDF Studios, and Spain’s Atresmedia.

The trend began in early 2025 when Netflix signed a landmark deal with French commercial network TF1 at Cannes Lions. Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters called it a “new kind of partnership,” comparing it to NBC or ABC handing over its live channels and sports to a streamer. Meanwhile, Prime Video and France Télévisions have also teamed up, offering five of the pubcaster’s key channels and 20,000 hours of content on Amazon’s platform.

Vincent Broussard, CEO of the TV division of Groupe L’Équipe, said: “This collaboration with Disney+ marks a new milestone for La Chaîne L’Équipe. It allows us to expand our reach while staying true to our mission: sharing a passion for sport with the widest possible audience, delivering recognized expertise, and offering Disney+ customers must-see sporting events.”
