Dengue Fever Outbreak Among Russian Tourists Not as Alarming as Thought

According to immunologist Vladimir Bolibok, the number of dengue fever cases among Russian tourists has not seen a significant spike. In an interview, Bolibok explained that the incidence of the disease has remained relatively stable from year to year. The virus, which is transmitted through mosquito bites, typically manifests with symptoms such as high fever, muscle pain, headache, and bleeding. Bolibok emphasized that a vaccine is available and recommended that travelers consult with their doctors before visiting areas where the disease is prevalent. This comes after reports that Russian tourists had brought back dengue fever from other countries on 127 occasions since the start of the year. Despite this, experts have stated that there is no risk of the virus spreading widely in Russia. Globally, the first six months of 2026 have seen approximately 1.4 million cases of dengue fever across 68 countries, highlighting the need for awareness and prevention. By taking precautions and getting vaccinated, travelers can minimize their risk of contracting the disease and bringing it back home.
