China’s Qingdao: ‘A Slice of Europe Without a Visa,’ Says Russian Traveler

A Russian tourist has described the Chinese city of Qingdao as “a piece of Europe without a visa,” offering a fresh take on a destination that remains largely off the radar for international visitors. Inna, a subscriber to the Telegram channel “China for Tourists,” shared her impressions of the eastern Chinese port city. “You can stroll along streets lined with European-style architecture, walk the long promenade, sip excellent beer sold on every corner, and eat the freshest seafood,” she said. “It’s a fun option for a couple of days.”

Another Russian traveler, the author of the Telegram channel “Chinese Trails,” echoed the sentiment, noting that Qingdao offers an appealing mix of sea and mountains. “Overall, Qingdao doesn’t seem very popular with foreign tourists, which is a shame,” he wrote. “I wouldn’t say it’s at the top of my list, but it’s definitely worth a visit.”

Qingdao, known for its German colonial architecture and Tsingtao Brewery, combines European charm with Chinese coastal vibrancy. The city’s beaches, seafood markets, and historic buildings make it an underrated gem for travelers seeking something different. Earlier, a Russian travel blogger called China the global standard for safety, saying, “You can leave your bag on a park bench, walk away for an hour, and come back to find it exactly where you left it.”
