Celebratory Chaos Turns Violent: Shooting Erupts in Massachusetts After World Cup Match

A joyful celebration turned deadly in Brockton, Massachusetts, after the 2026 World Cup match between Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia. According to NBC Boston, multiple shootings were reported in the area surrounding the city's central street, leaving four people injured. All victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The police have released photos of a suspect, described as a young black male wearing a dark sweater. The incident occurred in a city with a significant Cape Verdean population - approximately 20,000 residents hail from the island nation. Many had gathered to celebrate their team's historic advancement to the playoff round, courtesy of a 0-0 tie with Saudi Arabia. This incident is not the first instance of violence in the state related to the World Cup. Previously, a shooting occurred at a hotel in Sturbridge, where Scottish fans were staying. A pregnant woman, reportedly eight months along, crashed her SUV into the hotel wall before opening fire. The authorities received a report of the incident on June 18 at 0:55 local time. As the World Cup continues, concerns about fan safety and celebratory chaos are on the rise.
