Budget-Friendly Russian Getaways Revealed for August Travel

Just in time for a quirky unofficial holiday—Hotel Swan Day, celebrated in late July—experts from the booking service Othello have crunched the numbers on the cheapest destinations for Russian travelers this August. Their findings, shared with Lenta.ru, highlight where you can stretch your ruble furthest without sacrificing a good night’s sleep.
Topping the list of affordable cities are Novosibirsk, Makhachkala, and Krasnodar, where the average nightly rate stays under 6,000 rubles. Also making the top 15: Adler, Gelendzhik, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad, Sochi, Vladivostok, and Anapa. Whether you’re after mountain views or Black Sea breezes, these spots offer solid value for a late-summer escape.
The survey also dug into a lighter topic: how guests feel about towel art in their hotel rooms. Turns out, 69 percent of respondents see those folded swans and elephants as a charming touch that lifts the mood. Another 25 percent notice them but don’t care much, while 5 percent find them unnecessary, and 3 percent admit they’re unsure how to react. For context, Othello’s earlier research pegged the average daily cost of a summer 2026 trip across Russia at 7,900 rubles—so these August deals are a real bargain.
