British Lawyer Dies After Cosmetic Surgery in Turkey, Family Files Suit

A British woman who traveled to Turkey for cosmetic surgery died from complications four days after her procedures, her family has revealed. Diarra Brown, a 28-year-old lawyer from the UK, took out a £10,000 loan to pay for a buttock lift and liposuction at a private clinic in Bahçelievler in October 2021.

Brown sought the operations to boost her self-confidence, her relatives said. Immediately after the surgery, she reported severe pain. Her family contacted the clinic's medical staff, who assured them Brown's condition would improve. It did not. She was found unresponsive four days later. Her death was attributed to sepsis, a severe bodily reaction to infection.

The family is now pursuing legal action against the clinic and the surgeon who performed the operation, Dr. Sevket Gokham Bayam. They shared their story recently, hoping to highlight the potential dangers of medical tourism.

The case emerges amid other reports of patients suffering serious harm at Turkish clinics. In a separate incident, a Russian woman reportedly had her teeth ground down to stumps during a botched veneer procedure. These events underscore the critical importance of thorough research and understanding the risks involved when seeking cut-price medical treatments abroad.
