Beijing’s Top Hotels Go Dark Ahead of Trump’s Arrival
Two of Beijing’s finest hotels are fully booked for the duration of President Donald Trump’s upcoming state visit to China, according to a review of listings on the travel platform Ctrip. The Kempinski Hotel Beijing and the Four Seasons Beijing, both located within a ten-minute walk of the U.S. embassy, show no vacancies from May 13 through May 15.
Trump is scheduled to be in the Chinese capital from May 13 to 15 for talks with Chinese leaders. The agenda includes discussions on bilateral relations and global peace and development, as confirmed by Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.
Chinese authorities typically keep details about foreign leaders’ accommodations under wraps for security reasons. But the booking data offers a rare glimpse into likely arrangements. The Kempinski, along the Liangmahe River, has long been a preferred stop for high-level foreign delegations. The Four Seasons, its neighbor, is similarly positioned for embassy access.
Other luxury hotels in the city—including the Peninsula Beijing, St. Regis, and Bvlgari Hotel Beijing—still had rooms available as of the evening of May 12. Another strong possibility for Trump’s stay is the state guesthouse Diaoyutai, a secluded diplomatic compound that hosted President Richard Nixon during his historic 1972 visit to China.
Bloomberg reported earlier that the White House has invited a group of prominent business leaders to accompany Trump on the trip. The list includes Tesla founder Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Boeing President Kelly Ortberg.
