Baggage System Hiccup at Vnukovo Airport Prompts Swift Response, Normal Service Expected This Evening

Passengers flying out of Moscow's Vnukovo Airport faced delays and confusion over the weekend as a glitch in the baggage handling system disrupted luggage processing. The trouble started late Sunday night, and the airport has been scrambling to fix it ever since. In a statement, Vnukovo's management said they've called in extra staff and brought in an outside contractor to help sort things out. They're aiming to have everything running smoothly by the end of Monday.

"We're aware of the inconvenience and are working flat out to resolve the issue," the airport said in a notice to travelers. "We've already brought in additional personnel to help distribute baggage, and a contractor is assisting with the technical side." While the problem has been most acute for departing passengers—whose checked bags were slow to make it onto flights—arriving travelers have reported fewer snags. Still, the airport acknowledged that the situation isn't fully under control yet.

"We're making progress and the situation is already better than it was overnight," the airport added. "We expect that by evening, baggage handling will be back to normal." Vnukovo urged passengers to stay in touch with their airlines for real-time updates. The disruption comes at a busy travel period, though the airport has not reported any major flight cancellations as a direct result of the glitch. Officials remained confident that the fix would be in place before the evening rush.
