April Emerges as the Smart Choice for a Budget-Friendly Spring Getaway

If you're planning a spring vacation next year and want to maximize your paid time off, start looking at April. According to labor law expert Alexander Yuzhalin from SuperJob, April 2026 is the most financially advantageous month for employees on a fixed salary to take a break.

The logic is straightforward and hinges on the calendar. Yuzhalin explains that a day of paid leave is calculated based on your average daily earnings over the past year. However, the 'cost' of a single working day to your employer varies each month, determined by dividing your monthly salary by the number of workdays.

Next spring, April has 22 scheduled workdays, March has 21, and May only 19. With more workdays, the individual value of each day in April is lower. Therefore, taking a day off in April is less 'expensive' for your employer compared to using that same day in May, when each workday carries a higher monetary weight. In essence, you get the same daily vacation pay, but you're deducting a less valuable workday from your employer's ledger.

"When the cost of a single workday is higher than your average daily earnings, it's better to keep working," Yuzhalin notes. "But when they are equal or your average pay is higher, that's the ideal window for vacation." For 2026, April presents that window, with March a close second. May, with its cluster of public holidays reducing workdays, is the least economical choice for your paid leave.
