Alaska Airlines Pilots Now Command Salaries Over $400,000

A new benchmark for pilot pay has been set, with captains at Alaska Airlines now earning annual salaries that can surpass the $400,000 mark. According to a report from Aviation A2Z, a new contract implemented last year raised the maximum hourly rate for captains to approximately $361. For a pilot flying a standard schedule of about 75 hours monthly, that translates to a base salary nearing $324,000 annually.
With additional pay and incentives factored in, many senior captains are taking home at least $350,000 each year. The most experienced aviators with the airline are now reported to earn above $400,000. First officers also saw significant gains, with starting pay around $120 per hour, leading to an annual income just over $107,000. Their earnings can climb to about $153,000 with seniority.
This substantial compensation package stands in stark contrast to the conditions recently highlighted for some airline cabin crews. The report follows recent social media posts from a flight attendant at a major U.S. carrier, who compared the temporary crew housing provided between flights to prison-like accommodations. The disparity underscores ongoing debates about quality of life and compensation across different roles within the aviation industry.
