Airstream Shrinks Its Iconic Trailer to 17 Feet, Aiming at First-Time Buyers
Airstream has rolled out its smallest travel trailer yet, the World Traveler 17RB, a 17-foot rig designed to lure newcomers into the brand’s legendary silver-bullet club. Slotting below the $69,400 22RB, this lightweight model keeps the classic riveted aluminum shell but adds modern touches like dual-pane acrylic windows, a manual awning, and retractable steps. The air conditioner is tucked under the roof, giving the trailer a low profile, while optional solar panels and a 2.5 kWh lithium battery pack let owners venture off the grid.
Inside, the cabin feels open and airy with white aluminum walls and a choice of Shoreline or Sagebrush upholstery. Up front, a convertible dinette doubles as a lounge and sleeping spot; at the back, a 53-inch-wide bed sleeps two. Between them sits a compact kitchen with a two-burner stove, sink, and a 2.1-cubic-foot fridge-freezer. The counter extends with a foldable leaf and a removable section over the bedside, and an optional microwave saves you from cooking after a long day. A Truma Combi Eco Plus system handles heating and hot water, while a 24-inch Smart TV and JBL audio gear keep things entertaining.
Production is already underway in the U.S., with global sales starting this fall. Airstream hasn’t released pricing yet, but promises the 17RB will offer “one of the most accessible entry points into the Airstream lifestyle.” For anyone who’s dreamed of owning that iconic aluminum trailer, this baby camper might be the key.
