Airbnb Quietly Tests AI Search for a Select Few

Airbnb is placing a major bet on artificial intelligence to reshape how people find and book stays. In a recent earnings discussion, CEO Brian Chesky outlined a company-wide push to create an "AI-native experience," designed to streamline booking for guests, aid hosts with their properties, and improve internal operations.

A key part of this initiative is a new search tool, currently active for a limited group of users. According to a shareholder letter, this experimental feature allows guests to describe their ideal trip in plain language, asking detailed questions about listings and destinations. The goal is to move beyond simple filters to a conversational search that guides the entire travel planning process. Airbnb has not announced a public launch date for the tool.

This isn't the company's first AI project. Last year, it launched an AI customer service chatbot in North America. TechCrunch reported the system already manages about one-third of support inquiries without human help. Chesky stated the chatbot's capabilities will expand significantly over the next year, with plans for a global rollout.

While some competitors integrated AI features earlier, Airbnb's methodical testing suggests a focus on refining the technology before a wider release, aiming for a deeper integration into the travel experience.
